Competency Standards for Specialist Critical Care Nurses, 2nd Edition, 2002
In 1996 it was envisaged that the Competency Standards would be utilised as a framework for a variety of purposes including the development of critical care nursing curricula and practice based assessment tools. Since their introduction these standards have provided the structural base for critical care curricula, performance assessment tools and as a model for professional development. Critical care nursing clinicians have also found the standards a useful tool for the purpose of self reflection on their professional practice and identification of professional development needs.
